A new case study from Germany highlights the potential of Bio-LNG for direct CO₂ reduction in heavy road transport. This recent publication by the Deutsche Energie-Agentur (dena) shows that Bio-LNG is not only climate-friendly, but also already practical to use. Currently, 98% of the LNG supplied at filling stations in Germany is already Bio-LNG, which is a clear sign that the transition is in full swing.

Up to 200% CO₂ reduction: independent validation

Bio-LNG, produced from biological waste streams such as manure and organic waste, can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 200% compared to diesel. When using Bio-LNG from manure, the avoided methane emissions from that manure can also be taken into account, bringing the total CO₂ reduction to as much as 200%. This makes use of existing technology, vehicles and refuelling infrastructure.

Bio-LNG from Rolande: 200% CO₂ reduction, cost-effective and immediately deployable

At Rolande, we have long been committed to Bio-LNG as a solution for making heavy road transport more sustainable. Does your company’s transport still run on diesel? Then now is the time to become more sustainable.

Sustainable driving through Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium

What Dena is reporting in Germany is already being implemented on a large scale in practice. Thanks to the largest Bio-LNG network in the Netherlands and a growing number of refuelling locations in Belgium and Germany, fossil-free heavy transport is already feasible and scalable today. More and more transport companies are achieving measurable CO₂ reductions without relying on subsidies. For example, more than 600 Bio-LNG trucks, owned by a large German retailer with its own logistics department, are already saving a total of 45,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year in Germany, proving that sustainable transport on a large scale is already within reach.

“We see that the insights from this German publication perfectly match what we achieve with our customers on a daily basis. Bio-LNG is not something for the future; it is available now and cost-effective.” – Ronit Ghai, Sales Manager Germany
